Nick must have slept a total of 30 minutes that first night. The rest of the time was spent over the toilet. Me on the other hand? I slept like a rock. With the AC nice and low and a full size bed all to myself. Call it a stroke of luck, I didn’t get anything beyond a nausea and a headache. Me. The same guy who’s usually out for a week if he gets a cold. Suspicious but not asking to many questions, I enjoyed the two days off, rotting in bed. If there was any real “pro” to all this it was avoiding the worst of the heat wave. Temps over 100° do not make for a successful hike. In fact - it could land you in the hospital. So I laid back, enjoyed some great Mexican food and Hibachi while poor Nick slept for two days straight. Eventually we made the 2 mile walk across town to the grocery store, and resupplied for our inevitable return to trail. We ran into some friends; Big Eh and another couple (we can’t remember the names of… even though we see them every other week) down at the lobby for a last hotel breakfast. With Nick feeling better, we reluctantly charted our path forward. The modern amenities of society, really had us both missing home. We’re enjoying our time out here as much as we can, but the rose colored glasses were left at some fly infested privy, a hundred miles back. I’m comfortable enough to admit that a-lot of this sucks. However, the “suck” of it all, is kinda the point. I knew that going into this, and while I may bitch the whole way, I’m going to see this through.
